I conceded that point. That’s when my wife put her palm to her forehead and laughed. I asked what was the matter and she confessed she felt rather silly. She said a portable space heater would be just the thing for our situation. It would allow us to heat the bedroom to a comfortable temperature for her while saving money by not messing with the thermostat. Of course, I insisted that it would be on her side of the bed. It had been so long since either of us considered a portable climate control option. We decided to go to a hardware store to see what we might be able to find. We found a space heater that was compact, yet powerful. I was surprised by the decent price. I’m so happy that my wife can now be cozy and warm while I generally get to stay cooler and save money on my energy bill!

I have to say, spending nearly 18 months inside the central air conditioning of my home during the pandemic was a real change for me. That’s because I’ve spent my entire adult life going to the office every single day unless I was sick or out of town on vacation. So when they close those offices and that wonderful zone controlled HVAC, I was a bit lost at first. My whole routine and life structure was turned upside down. However, I sure wasn’t about to take any chances with that virus either. Working from home in the safety of my own air conditioning would just have to suffice. I had a hard time working from home initially. But my wife helped a lot as she was sent home to work to the air conditioning safety of our house as well. She suggested that we clear out the guest room and make it a proper office for the both of us. And that was the answer I was looking for. Once we had the dedicated office space, I was much more comfortable and got into a nice rhythm. It’s interesting that the HVAC cabinet right outside the window I faced in our new office. So I’d hear it kicking on and off all day. I didn’t pay as much attention to it as I thought. But one day I noticed a weird sound and it was almost imperceptible. I walked outside to get a better listen and sure enough something was going on. I ended up calling the HVAC company and they came out to have a look. Turns out, I heard a failing part before it turned into a huge disaster. I ended up saving a bunch of money just by paying attention to my HVAC equipment.

It’s now confirmed that I have a great deal to learn when it comes to HVAC and indoor air quality. But I’m making strides. Still, I was pretty ignorant about both those topics for a long time. The idea that there could be indoor air pollution was the furthest thing from my mind. I mean we lived in a great house with super residential HVAC. Plus we lived way out in the country. The air here is about as pure as anywhere else on Earth maybe. But the lack of factories are highways and all that smoke doesn’t mean that there aren’t indoor air contaminants lingering in the house. Second, I thought the HVAC air filter was built to remove whatever suspended contaminants there were in the air. I mean, when I change the air filter it sure looks dirty. But that’s also what it was designed to do. Those cheap air filters I always used were made to trap anything that could hurt the HVAC equipment. It had nothing to do with cleaning the air or protecting my health. For that I would need a HEPA filter. And once I learned all about the HVAC and indoor air quality, that’s exactly what I put in. But we also wanted to get the very best indoor air quality we could. The HVAC company told us that air purification was the only way to do it. So now we have a whole home air purification system and it is just remarkable. The air is clean and smells really fresh. And we have the best indoor air quality money can buy.

Recently, I have been looking a lot into our past. I don’t suppose if you’ve ever heard the same, however there is a saying that goes that you’re a new person every 7 years. I do guess that this is true. Because when I look at myself 7 years ago I am completely strange now than I was in. It’s an interesting thing to look at yourself in the past because in some ways I legitimately believe love I have gotten better at certain things, and in other ways I actually think I have gotten worse. I have been having some regrets about some of the decisions I have made in the past, relationships I have been in, and old tasks that I used to have that I legitimately should have kept that I let go. I think I did not always make the best decisions, I still remember this 1 time 1 of the dumbest things I have done was try to repair our A/C plan myself. Everybody I knew warned myself and others not to do that, they all told myself and others it was a legitimately excruciating plan but I was stubborn and did not want to listen. I was so sure that I would be able to fix it myself that I did not bother to listen to those around me. I had gotten out all these tools and tried to repair our cooling system plan only for things to go terribly wrong. Not only did I legitimately badly damage myself and I had to go to the hospital, but I had damaged our A/C plan in the process, but paying for the damages to our A/C plan is not fun but I had to if I wanted to have a functioning air conditioner.

The Summer has always been 1 of my favorite seasons of the year however unfortunately it’s also 1 of the hottest.

I was so sure that I would be able to service it myself that I did not bother to listen to those around me. I had gotten out all these tools & tried to service our a/c only for things to go terribly wrong. Not only did I genuinely badly damage myself & I had to go to the hospital, however I had disfigured our AC system in the process… Paying for the disfigures to our AC system is not fun however I had to if I wanted to have a functioning a/c.

It’s not that I’m never wrong.

That’s not it at all because I’m incorrect a lot more than I would prefer to be.

But when I’m wrong, it seems like I’m really way wrong. That was certainly the case when I was sure I was right about not putting more money into the house that we were moving from. This was just counterintuitive to me and I really wasn’t about to have any of it. Like why would I tear out working HVAC equipment to upgrade the residential HVAC and then move out?. It just didn’t make any logical sense to me. I understood the supposed logic of spending money in order to make a pile of money on our house. Still, I thought with the booming real estate market, weren’t we supposed to get a ton of money anyway? At least that’s the way it was sounding from everybody I talked with. I probably should have paid attention to my dad’s old saying of don’t believe everything you hear. So when the realtor whipped out a long list of upgrades which included the residential HVAC, I pushed back. I finally convinced my wife to just get the house listed and then see if we can get what we wanted for it. And that was where I made a huge mistake. We cleaned out, painted and staged the house so it was its most attractive. We even lowered the price compared to other houses like ours. Then our house sat for months with very few potential buyers looking at it. Yet, once we upgraded the HVAC equipment, our house sold within a couple of weeks. Like I said, when I’m wrong I’m way wrong.
