There was a trend where people were stealing the copper tubing from HVAC units

When the economy is bad, people will do seemingly weird things to get a few extra dollars into their wallet.

One of those things, for quite a while, was stealing the copper tubing from outdoor HVAC units.

I suppose people who had their HVAC units on the roof during that time were very happy with themselves. I am sure that if I was reading in the news about all the people who had copper stolen from their AC system, I would be very pleased that I had made the choice to put my outdoor unit on the roof. Well, what’s your HVAC unit on the ground? It’s not really feasible to move it to the roof, right? so, if someone should choose to steal the copper tubing, what are some of the things you could do to discourage him? Well, first of all, people don’t steal copper all the time. You see fluctuations in the theft of HVAC units, specifically copper, as the cost of goods increases, the value of the dollar decreases, and the price of copper increases. People can bring copper to a recycling center, just like they can for aluminum or steel. if the center is paying a high price, then people are more likely to look for ways to get their hands on it. So one thing you can do to discourage theft is To get a lock and lock up the outdoor Power disconnection area. Most people do not want to risk getting electrocuted, so if they can’t turn off the power, they will probably just leave. The other option is to buy an air conditioning cage. This is basically a metal device that is constructed much like a cage that slides over your HVAC unit and gets locked. This will discourage thieves because it will be too hard to get through it and get to the valuable copper.

Why are outdoor HVAC units sometimes put on the roof

Have you ever noticed that sometimes your outdoor AC unit is on the ground, but other people have theirs on the roof? Oftentimes, I have noticed that businesses, especially, will have their HVAC unit up on the roof.

My church’s HVAC unit is housed on the roof.

This has always seemed really strange to me because if somebody has to go up there for maintenance or repair, it seems like it would just be easier to have the unit on the ground. That made me try to figure out what could be the advantages of having your HVAC unit installed on your roof. Well, first off, I will say that it does give you more space in your yard. I have a very tiny backyard because I live in a townhouse. if I did not have the AC unit sitting right there on the ground, that would give me about four square feet extra of space where I could either plant flowers or let my dog run free. I suppose that is an advantage, but I don’t know how significant it really is. So then I thought, well, I have noticed that one of the things you really have to do if you have Central Heating and Cooling is make sure that that outside unit does not get overgrown with grasses or leaves or any kind of bushes that grow around it. In other words, your HVAC unit needs room to breathe. There must be air flow in order to be healthy. so, I guess, having your HVAC unit on the roof will mean that you don’t have to worry about bushes being planted around the edges too close or things of that nature. The last time the AC guy came for my regular maintenance call, I decided to ask him, and it turns out the number one reason for putting the HVAC unit on the roof is to avoid theft! I found that shocking and also a sad commentary on the state of affairs.

I wish my air conditioning return vent was not in the ceiling

The smaller AC air vents that are either in your floor or up near your ceiling are the ones that blow out the heated and cooled air that your HVAC system produces

If you know anything about taking care of your air conditioning system, in even the slightest way, you know that it is important to change your AC air filter on a regular basis. For the most part, the average family is told that they should change their AC filter at least every 3 months. that advice changes, however, if you have someone in your house who has allergies or respiratory ailments, if you have dogs or cats, or if someone in the household smokes. All of these things add additional contaminants to the indoor air, and you want to have good indoor air quality, so changing out your AC filter will help you toward having healthier air in your house. I do not have any problem remembering to replace my disposable air conditioning filter, but I do have one problem that makes it inconvenient for me to change it. My AC return vent is in the ceiling. if you’re not sure what your air conditioning return vent is, it is simply the place that you open up and replace your filter. that particular event does not blow out air. The smaller AC air vents that are either in your floor or up near your ceiling are the ones that blow out the heated and cooled air that your HVAC system produces. The big return vent that I am talking about, the one where you have to go in and change your air conditioning filter on a regular basis, actually sucks air out of the house and in through that vent. Anyway, I wish it was not in the ceiling because I have to go outside, get the ladder, drag it in and climb up the ladder and replace the filter. I am getting older and I have arthritis, so this is not the simplest thing for me to do.

I have had to replace my ductwork two separate times

After that, I did my best to make sure that there was no way for any cats to get through any of the vents that were there in the brick

My house’s foundation is not a slab. There is a crawl space underneath my house with brick surround. The brick part is visible from the outside and is visually appealing to the curb appeal and having a crawl space with access to it is quite convenient if you have to have a place for your ductwork and your plumbing to live. In the crawl space there is lots of air conditioning ductwork. In fact, there is duct work that’s not even connected anymore, and that is because I have had to replace my ductwork two separate times in my house since I have owned it for 20 years now. The first time I found out that my ducks were in trouble was about 2 years after I bought the house. All of a sudden, the house just would not get cool. Sometimes, where I live, down in the southeast, it gets so hot outside that people’s air conditioners just cannot keep up. I figured that is what was going on with my AC when it was always kind of hot in my house. Finally, though, I wised up and decided to call my heating and cooling company technician. They set up an appointment for a service call and that is when I discovered that the ductwork under my house had been torn apart by Little Critters that had sought Refuge in the crawl space of my house. both wild animals such as raccoons and possums, as well as feral cats in the neighborhood, had decided to go down there and soak up some of my expensive air conditioning. After that, I did my best to make sure that there was no way for any cats to get through any of the vents that were there in the brick. Nevertheless, a couple of years later, I had the same symptoms again.

It's important to inspect your AC ducts

One of the most costly aspects of a home is the HVAC system.

  • The heating and cooling system in your home does not come with a small price tag, and it continues to cost money over the years because of the use.

There’s no sense having an air conditioner and a heater if you don’t use them, of course, but operational expenses do account for a good bit of most families’ monthly bills. Because of that, it just makes good sense to keep your HVAC system as healthy as possible. One way to do that is to make sure that you get your ac ducts inspected and possibly repaired and maintained. The ductwork in your HVAC system has two main jobs. First, the ductwork moves the heated and cooled air into the various rooms through the AC air vents. The second major job of your ductwork is To lessen indoor air contamination, or help you have good indoor air quality. if your ducts get damaged in some way or just get old and cracked, you will lose both of those abilities. your ductwork will no longer be giving you the best indoor air quality that you need, and the heating and cooling will be reduced because you will be losing some of that conditioned air through tiny cracks or crevices or holes if your ductwork is damaged. Not only will cracks or other small problems in your ductwork keep you from being as comfortable as possible, you will be paying more for the privilege of being less comfortable. That’s right, if your HVAC isn’t heating and cooling your house as well as it should because of your ductwork, then you will be paying more money each month for your heating and cooling costs. This is just a natural consequence. If your air conditioning has to work harder to keep the house at the thermostat setting you want it at, then that is going to cost more money. less efficiency equals higher costs. so, as part of your regular homeowner maintenance, don’t forget to take good care of your ductwork so that your HVAC system can work its best for you.

No one in my hometown ever considered putting in air conditioning

I have lived the majority of my life down in the Southeastern portion of the country, and therefore I kind of consider myself a southerner.

it’s not 100% true, though. I was actually born way up in the Northeast in a very small town. Since I have lived in the southeast, I have never been without air conditioning. With the exception of when I first moved here as a young child with my Family, every place I have ever lived has had Central Heating and cooling. In fact, I would venture to say that if I had to give up my air conditioning, I would not live in this part of the country. It is hot and humid almost the entire year. I would guess that I use my air conditioner at least 10 months of the year most years. Anyway, it’s funny how things change, isn’t it? Although I have lived most of my life in the south, I spent my first years up in the Northeast where no one would have ever considered putting in air conditioning. granted, back in those days Heating and Cooling was not as common as it is now. Well, we did have a good heating system. It was a furnace with radiators and so forth, and everyone did have a good furnace because it got extremely cold where we lived. It did not stay cold for 10 months of the year, but when it got cold it got very cold. anyway, air conditioning was not common, and no one in my hometown would have ever considered putting it in. Now that Central Heating and Cooling is the norm for just about every home in this country, of course they will have air conditioning. but back then, not so much. It’s amazing how much things can change in one person’s lifetime.

Getting an Heating, Ventilation & A/C protection plan

The only cost may be the heating and a/c upgrade

If I were you and you have not already done so, I would look into getting a heating and a/c protection plan from your local heating and cooling corporation. If you have yourself a heating and a/c protection plan you can absolutely reduce the risk of going broke in the event a storm or other natural disaster wrecks your central heating and cooling unit to the point where you have no choice however to buy a brand new, up-to-date and usually particularly high-priced central heating and a/c. With the heating and cooling protection plan you will be covered! You will not have to invest thousands of dollars at short notice to buy a brand new and up-to-date central heating and a/c unit. You will be protected by the heating and cooling maintenance & protection plan that you pay a particularly little amount for each month. And that heating and a/c protection plan will replace your broken and destroyed central heating and a/c that was ruined in a storm or other natural disaster for no cost what so ever. The only cost may be the heating and a/c upgrade. And that absolutely is not that much currency compared to that plus several thousands of dollars for a brand new and up-to-date central heating and a/c unit, my Heating, Ventilation & A/C protection plan saved me thousands a few years ago when a storm wrecked my central heating and a/c beyond repair. It could help you as well if you don’t have one already!

Increasing prices of Heating, Ventilation, and A/C household services

Has anyone observed that in the last year or so the cost of HVAC system household services have absolutely gone up.

And I am not talking just by a little, but by quite a bit compared to what it was just a few years ago, however for instance when I just had a new central HVAC system component installed by the local heating and cooling corporation it cost me about three hundred bucks more than what it was for a acquaintance of mine just 2 years ago.

I was pretty shocked to say the least! Also when I had to have my absolutely own central HVAC system component unit repaired a few months ago, it cost me almost double what it used to cost for a easy heating and cooling system repair. I was not too glad about this. I feel inflation is on the rise and there is not a damn thing any single last one of us can do about it! However, I do have some hope deep down that once this new era of financial depression my pal and I are facing absolutely sinks in within the next year or so, the cost of HVAC system household services will either go back to the way they used to be a few years ago or possibly even decrease and be much cheaper. That is entirely the only way any corporation is going to survive once the recession that is coming absolutely hits us all hard! But for now I am stuck paying these silly prices for HVAC system household services and I will have to keep on paying them.

Buying my modern gas fireplace

After having much exhausting luck with an electric fireplace I obtained plus trying to return it even being more of a headache I was just so glad to be rid of it plus done with it! I decided instead once I got my money back to go out plus buy a gas fireplace instead.

  • Now there were a few reasons for this.

The first plus foremost reason being that if something was wrong with the gas fireplace I obtained that I would be able to return it a lot easier because it was not as big of an item plus it did not take a whole ton of putting together plus installing like an electric fireplace does. The other reasoning behind it is that it was cheaper plus much more compact to fit in my family room. Also I think the purple flame is much more prettier than what an electric fireplace provides. Sure I will not be able to decorate the gas fireplace as much as I would an electric fireplace when the holiday season of Christmas comes about. However, it is a truly small sacrifice to make to get a fireplace that is much easier to install yourself, costs a little less plus is overall better looking. I do not know why I even went in for purchasing an electric fireplace in the first place. I think it just could have been all the hype within the electric fireplace that made me do it. I should have went for this gas fireplace that I have right now at this truly moment in time from the start! I am so glad with this gas fireplace!
