I asked my father if he could install the furnace for us?

When we got our new furnace, I told my husband I wanted my father to do the installation.

  • He said the HVAC company had qualified HVAC technicians who could do the installation and asked if I was sure I wanted to have my dad do it.

He worried about my dad’s health, and said he had retired from the HVAC company for a reason. I asked if he wanted to do the installation, and he said no. I told my husband that dad had retired because he was tired of my mom nagging him, and that had nothing to do with him being sick. My husband was as stubborn as my father. His comment was that if mom didn’t nag him so much, he wouldn’t need to retire, because he would still be happy. Before I knew what was happening, we were in an argument, and I was walking out of the house. Mom opened the door when I knocked and wanted to know what was going on. I told her I was going to ask dad if he would install our new furnace, and the argument that ensued. She said dad was sick, but he was sick of her nagging. He promised he would retire when he turned sixty-two and tried to back out of it. I wasn’t allowed to ask him to install the furnace, because he would use it as a reason to come out of retirement, and she wanted to start traveling. I couldn’t believe I was now arguing with my mom because I wanted dad to install my furnace. She told me the HVAC company had competent HVAC technicians who could do the installation for me.
