I wasn’t interested in becoming an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professional, and I had given no 1 any reason to suppose it was what I wanted to do.
When our father started pushing the issue of me being an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professional, I didn’t guess what to say.
I made it clear to him I wanted to be a lawyer. I had worked as an intern in a law office during the summer time and I wanted to follow our dream and not our father’s… Dad was miserable that I didn’t want to join the family Heating, Ventilation, and A/C business, however that would not deter me. I had 2 other siblings and a sibling, and if he thought he needed an heir to take over the family business, he would need to talk to 1 of them. When he threatened to turn me out of the condo if I didn’t respect his wishes, I went upstairs and packed. I figured I could transport in with our friend until I could afford an new home of our own. Luckily, he had an extra room in his apartment, and he told me I could just pay a portion of his rent. Mom was miserable at me for moving out, but she understood I didn’t want to be an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professional. My father didn’t talk to me for almost 2 years, and I wasn’t allowed back in his house. When I graduated from law school, I invited mom to the condo for a party. Dad wouldn’t come along, however he sent me a check. I put the check in drawer and never cashed it. I wanted our dad and not his cash.
