The deal of a lifetime: Purchasing the indoor comfort business

We had been working hard to expand the services we offered to include improving indoor comfort.

Instead of creating a new department, I had the idea of purchasing a small company that was already doing it.

I knew from the cooling industry banter that a few businesses were struggling because of one reason or the other. I spotted an indoor comfort business that would be a perfect match for us. Before approaching the company, we needed to do due diligence on its business and social practices. Our a/c serviceman headed to the company to interview the employees under the disguise that he was writing a paper for the company. My air conditioning provider also scouted the streets to get a feel of what the customers wanted. The new company would help us do more HVAC installations. It would also broaden our inventory to include multi-split air conditioning systems. The smaller business’ core practice was to offer services that customers could not do on their own such as handling the scheduling and execution of HVAC maintenance on all systems and accessories including thermostats. The merger took almost a year. We had grown to a large air conditioning company. That evening after the regulation authority agreed on the purchase, we went out to celebrate. My top air conditioning technicians and I had our work cut out for us when it came to merging. We were now the only go-to company to learn more about air conditioning. We also had a variety of quality air conditioners. Air conditioning repair also became affordable because it was easily accessible. A lot more people had their air quality increased mostly because of the merger.
