Winter felt like it was never going to leave. We had some nice days, but the frigid days seemed to be all we remembered. I wore a sweater even while in the house. When I saw the flowers beginning to bloom, I knew we had beat winter again. Summer would soon be coming and we would no longer worry about the furnace. Our furnace had been giving us trouble for several years now. It seemed that we just couldn’t save enough money to be able to replace the furnace. My husband wasn’t working because of the pandemic, and I retired right before the pandemic started. Luckily, I had gotten a part time job and I was able to work from home. There was something to be said about having a job that left you able to work from home during a pandemic. I always had job security. This year however, was the year we had planned to replace the furnace. Even with all the work we had done so we could afford a new furnace, we still didn’t have enough money without my husband working. During the last cold snaps, I noticed the furnace was even less efficient than it had been. I told my husband I was afraid the furnace wasn’t going to last us much longer. He called the HVAC company and asked them to look at the furnace. The young HVAC technician shook his head after looking at the furnace. He said it was done working and we needed a new one. Even though the money was for emergencies, we had to buy the furnace because it was also a necessity.
