That 15 second absence almost proved to be fatal.

I have been using my space heating plan for years. It is a great addition to my bedroom, which often becomes cold. With the space furnace, I never have to worry about chilly weather. However, I believe since I have owned my area furnace for so long, I have become relaxed about the safety of it. When I first bought my portable heating unit, I was particularly careful. I heard of the horror stories, and so I made sure to study up on the directions and the dos and don’ts of this particular kind of Heating and A/C! Because I paid such close attention to the safety directions, I never had an issue, that is until now. I knew one of the things you were never supposed to do is leave the heating device on while you’re away, nor are you supposed to plug it into a power cord. Well, I only planned on being gone for 15 seconds, so I figured leaving the space heating unit on for that phase of time was no huge deal. I also had it clogged into an extension cord, because I was having trouble fitting some other electronics that I had recently bought. That 15 second absence almost proved to be fatal. When I came back, the extension cord was smoking! I unclogged it, almost burning myself in the process, and now my previously colorless cord was a dark brown. Had I been gone any longer, and my cabin would have been on fire. I still command area furnaces to anyone, but, always make sure to be careful around them.

I had just left our house about a second ago, & I was on our way to work, when I realized I forgot our cellphone, and I couldn’t go to my usual work without our cellphone, & so I had to drive back, rush in & grab our trusty cellphone.

As I figured, I arrived to work late, & our stupid boss made sure to point it out to me, which didn’t help, by the time I got home, the whole air conditioner van was long gone, & I hoped that they wouldn’t be back for a long time, but thankfully for me, our acquaintance was just getting HVAC maintenance & honestly shouldn’t have the air conditioner company out any time soon, however now hopefully nobody else in the town needs any kind of work on their units, or if they do, go with a massive company that knows how to properly park their van.

I never believed I’d be the sort of person to live in one area for years without moving.

I wanted to live in different cities and see the world in college.

After growing up on a farm with few people around, I was drawn to the fast city life. But alas! Life had other plans for me. In my last year at school, I met my girlfriend, and she fell pregnant. Even though she gave me the option of opting out of the responsibility, I chose to step up. I loved her and knew we’d make a wonderful family together. I got a job two weeks before graduation, and we moved in together to start our family life. Fast forward 25 years later, we had three kids, and the last one just joined college. We felt it was time for us to now see the world which meant selling the house. A selling agent had loved everything about it since I kept the house in great shape. But she advised us to upgrade the HVAC system to increase its value. She told us clients were more eco-conscious so we should aim for an energy efficient HVAC system. We had an area HVAC professional come in to assess the house and recommend the best energy efficient HVAC system to get. It took about a week to complete HVAC installation and already there was a buyer interested in the house. We plan on using some of the money to fund our travels, put more in our retirement accounts and spend the rest on a small bungalow near where our first born lives.

It’s odd for a young person to be living in a small community.

This is what my friends from college tell me every time we talk.

But, I find this small community much more accommodating than the chaotic cities they live in. It’s why I’ve managed to build a thriving holiday home business in the area. After college, an aunt passed away and left me with a hefty inheritance. Instead of moving to the city and buying a house. I moved to a small town and got several places. These houses were in the same area, so I converted one into my home and the rest and holiday lets. I’m always booked by the same friends who criticize my choices throughout the year. They say the area helps them relax after a busy year in the city. Last summer, I had a friend of mine from college treat her whole family to a stay in the countryside. I had to make sure the house they had booked was in order, so I made an appointment with an HVAC company. They were the same people who had installed the heating and cooling system in my house when I first bought them. I wanted the HVAC team to come by and sort out an issue with the cooling system. While I was preparing the house, I noticed that the cooling unit wasn’t blowing out ample cool air. The HVAC team assured me this wasn’t a big issue. It’s probably just a clogged air filter. It turns out they were right, and they managed to put in a new air filter.

Even after saying it out loud, I still felt like this was a dream.

It’s not easy to raise enough money for a down payment in today’s market. But, all those years of manifesting and saving had paid off. I was the first one in my family to go to college, and now I was a young homeowner. And I managed to scoop a house in a wonderful area. A friend of mine who is a real estate agent had given me some pointers on spotting the perfect place. Like most people, she also insisted I avoid house hunting in spring and summer. We went to see the house in the dead of winter, which was an eye-opening experience. I got to see how the house was performing in winter and realized we needed to ventilate the attic. The room felt cool and nice in winter, so I started to think of turning it into a home office. Plans for the conversion were underway in spring, and before summer, I put in a ductless AC system. I spoke with an area AC business that had come by with some fliers for HVAC installation, service, and repair. The AC expert I spoke with advised me to add a ductless AC system to make the space workable in summer. Attic ventilation ensures the owner can feel comfortable in this space. It’s also the best way to prevent hot air from accumulating there, which is a fire hazard. Not only did I have a lovely home, but I also managed to get a fancy home office.
