One thing that has annoyed me a lot over the years is the constant complaining about the temperature control settings in the house.
I have explained to the children constantly that we can’t afford to crank the Air conditioning system all the time and if they feel too cold in the winter, they better wear a sweatshirt or put a blanket around them! I never thought the temperature control settings were unreasonable. Generally, I would have the heating system set at 71 degrees and the cooling system set at 74. I also keep a humidifier running in the winter so that the temperature actually feels warmer. I can’t tell you how many times the children have adjusted the temperature control settings anyway, especially when I am away at work. I have told my wife that she should be more strict about the temperature control settings, but she agreed with the children that it was too uncomfortable in the house. Finally, I gave in and called the HVAC company to see what solution we could come up with. The HVAC professional was actually very helpful, telling me about upgrading our HVAC system to zone control or getting a zoned HVAC system installed. The HVAC was kind of ancient, practically 16 years old. I had enough money saved up so I decided to go for a new ductless multi-split system which the HVAC professional recommended. Suddenly, everybody had their own zone with customized temperature control settings, and what a game changer it has been! Nobody complains about the temperature control anymore and it’s always comfortable with low energy bills!
