I can only hope this winter will be better than last winter.

Although it is only August, I am already thinking about winter.

Last year, we had the HVAC technician to the house three times over the winter months. The last time he was here, the HVAC technician told us he wasn’t sure he could repair it any more. Now, it will be winter again in a few short months. We knew it was possible the HVAC technician was going to tell us we needed a new furnace. Buying a new furnace this year is almost inevitable, but it is expensive. Instead of putting money back for a new furnace, over the summer, we went on a vacation with our kids. We let the idea of purchasing a new furnace, slip out of our minds, the second we turned off the furnace and turned on the air conditioning. Vacation was amazing, and we made memories we’ll all remember, but I’m regretting it now. I called the HVAC company yesterday, and I asked to have the furnace serviced before fall arrived. I told them I didn’t want to be caught without heating if winter came early. I hung up the phone after having a pleasant conversation, and then I deflated. That’s when I realized we could possibly end up purchasing a new furnace this year. I started going through our finances, and my husband said he would call the bank and see if we couldn’t add the cost of a new furnace to the line of credit we opened on the house. We know we’ll be fine, but it irks that we knew this almost a year ago, and we still didn’t have a plan on how to afford the furnace.
