It seemed like our son was so sure that he wanted to be a lawyer when he was getting ready to graduate from high school. I mean he did great on his SATs and we figured he could easily get into a good school. He actually was accepted to most of the schools he applied for. The thing is, he changed his mind and told us he wanted to be an HVAC technician instead. I think he wanted to do that because some of his friends were planning on getting into the HVAC industry to become successful HVAC professionals. Knowing our son though, I didn’t think he would want to do something like that for a career, at least not for very long. Well, it wasn’t long before he changed his mind again and he said he wanted to be a driver for UPS. I was shocked because it seemed that he wasn’t even planning on going to school, he just wanted to start a career right away. Before we knew it, he was working at a local UPS loading and unloading trucks. I asked him what he was planning on doing and he said he wanted to become a driver. He said you basically have to work your way up from the bottom and he was going to do just that. Honestly, I would have preferred that he become an HVAC technician at first because at least you have to go to a trade school for that. He showed promise over the years though and it didn’t take him long to become an official driver. The drivers actually make pretty good money so I have to say that I am proud of my son. He has been making money this whole time and now he’s making as much as most college graduates.
