Converting from oil to natural gas heating

This past year, I invested into converting my heating system from oil to natural gas.

The cost of the project was considerable. However, I’m benefiting from significant savings on my energy bills every month. Natural gas is a less expensive fuel than heating oil. It’s more readily available. The former heating system was only 80% energy efficient, wasting a lot of the fuel that I was paying for. I replaced it with a high-efficiency natural gas furnace that offers a 98% AFUE rating. It not only costs far less to operate but provides better comfort and superior indoor air quality. Having a supply of natural gas connected to my home is wonderfully convenient. I have been able to convert other appliances to natural gas, including my oven, clothes dryer, water heater and swimming pool heater. I appreciate that natural gas is cleaner than other types of fossil fuels and less harmful to the environment. My new furnace emits about 40% less greenhouse gasses and 100% less sulfur dioxide. The natural gas is pulled from an underline pipeline and never runs out or gets disrupted by power outages. I don’t need to monitor our levels of heating oil to make certain we aren’t left without heat in the middle of a blizzard. We have gotten rid of the ugly tank in our yard and eliminated the need to schedule refuelining. All of these benefits have made the conversion to natural gas worthwhile. I hired a local HVAC contractor to handle the job. The company took care of everything quickly and safely. The new furnace is such a huge improvement.

Paying attention to the ductwork

For a long time, I ignored the importance of the duct system.

I have always been conscientious about taking very good care of the furnace and air conditioner.

I change the air filters every month and scheduled professional maintenance every year. I’d had my heating and cooling system for over five years before an HVAC contractor finally mentioned testing the ductwork. He pointed out that while the furnace and air conditioner share the workload, the ducts are handling both heated and cooled air. The breathing air of the home travels through that network of pipes multiple times her day. The contractor performed testing and figured out that the system was dirty and leaking. He estimated that approximately 20% of the heated/cooled air was escaping due to leaks at the seams. There was also a significant buildup of dust, pollen and mold. Whenever the furnace or air conditioner started up, those contaminants were becoming airborne and getting spread to every room in the house. My family was breathing them in and at risk of health problems. Our comfort was suffering from the separations at the seams of the ducts. I was definitely paying higher than necessary energy bills. There was greater wear and tear on the furnace and air conditioner. The contractor completed duct cleaning, sealing and overall maintenance. I immediately noticed the improvement. The living area required less dusting and vacuuming, smelled better and we enjoyed more consistent temperatures. I now make sure to request duct inspection every year. By keeping the entirety of the heating, cooling and ventilation systems working at its best, I have peace of mind.

Choosing a ventilator to improve indoor air quality

Before I decided on the right indoor air quality accessory for my home, I did some research.

  • I wanted to maximize the benefit of my investment.

I was worried about the health of my family’s living environment. Because of severe weather just about year round, we rely heavily on the furnace and the air conditioner. We switch from heating to cooling without much of a break in-between. It’s necessary to insulate, caulk and weatherstrip to eliminate energy waste. This creates a tighter thermal envelope, prevents drafts and keeps our utility costs as low as possible. However, contaminants become trapped inside. Cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene products, pesticides, pets and all sorts of things add to the problem. Dust, dander, unpleasant odors, VOCs, mold spores, bacteria and viruses cause health issues. Headaches, sore throat, difficulty sleeping, sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes and respiratory infections can often be blamed on the indoor air quality. We also have problems with insufficient humidity in the winter and excessive moisture in the summer. I considered air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, germicidal UV lights and ventilators. I read up on the benefits of each kind and chose a ventilator that brings fresh air into the home to replace the stale air. It makes for a cleaner, more enjoyable and comfortable living space. I opted for a heat recovery ventilator that uses the outgoing air to preheat the incoming air. It lessens the workload of the furnace, trimming costs while increasing reliability and equipment longevity. In the summer, it works to reduce humidity and help out the air conditioner.

Electric heat pump is environmentally friendly

Before moving south, I’d never heard of a heat pump. I spent the majority of my life in the northeast, where the weather gets extremely cold in the winter. We see temperatures down to negative twenty-five, and the windchill makes it feel even colder. It takes an incredibly powerful heating system to keep the house comfortable. When I’d finally had enough of wearing a wool coat for nine months out of the year and spending hours shoveling snow, I packed up and headed south. I moved just far enough that I’ll never need to worry about below-freezing temperatures again. Now, for most of the year, I require air conditioning. The heat and humidity can be brutal. The winters don’t last long, but there are conditions in the low forties. My current house is equipped with an electric heat pump. Rather than burn fossil fuels to generate heat, this type of system works by moving existing heat between the indoors and outdoors. It avoids the drawbacks of the combustion process, including greenhouse gasses, fumes and carbon monoxide. There is ambient heat available in the air, even during colder weather. The heat pump pulls this heat out of the air and compresses it into a higher temperature and then supplies it into the house. The process is exceptionally energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The heat pump costs a lot less to operate than the furnace. Most of the time, we run the heat pump in cooling mode. It reverses the flow of refrigerant to pull heat out of the house and deliver it outdoors.

My husband loves being a real estate agent because of the flexibility

My husband John has been working as a real estate agent for 2 years now.

Prior to this, he was working as a salesman, but he hated that he had to travel overnight for his job, and he decided that he wanted to be home more with his family.

His job as a salesman has helped him a lot as a realtor because his main goal is to convince a client to rent or to buy a property. It takes some charisma and good people skills to convince unwilling clients to make a purchase, and John certainly has plenty of that. He loves being a real estate agent because he is a business owner, and according to him, the best part about his job is that he loves the flexibility, and he can set his own hours. I love the flexibility as well because John is now able to help me more with our daughter Mia. She goes to daycare and sometimes, I am unable to pick her up because I have to work late, so John can swing by and pick her up from time to time. As with any career, there can be some challenges, but the only thing that John has mentioned was that there is a lot of competition in the industry. However, John will not let that stop or discourage him from succeeding as a real estate agent because with hard work, he is determined to win. I believe he has done well so far, and he has exceeded his earning goals for the last two years. I know that John will continue to do well, and I love that he’s a realtor because when we are ready to purchase a new home, he will be the first person that I call.

Clara was scared there was a gas leak in her home

The first time Clara used the gas oil furnace, she was upset there was a gas leak in her home

It’s been years in the making but Clara finally hit her tearing point. Many people long to live in immense cities where life is fast and successful. But, after decades of noise and pollution, Clara was looking forward to leaving it all behind. During the pandemic, she had stayed in this amazing small neighborhood in a mountainous part of the country. People who stayed there had an amazing quality of life and Clara completely fell in adore with the site. Since her boss had made her position permanently remote, Clara saw no reason to stay. Her divorce had been finalized a while back and she could start her life wherever she pleased. There was a small beach house on the market near a huge manor house that Clara purchased. All she had to do were self-explanatory updates plus installing a heating system. Even though the part looked amazing in Summer and barely needed the cooling unit, winters were a whole other matter. The owner of the manor house requested Clara to hire an Heating & A/C supplier to install an efficient heating system. Without it, it was impossible to survive Winter time in the area. Clara heeded her advice and found an part Heating & A/C supplier to take care of the upgrade. She went for a gas oil furnace which she found as more energy efficient. The first time Clara used the gas oil furnace, she was upset there was a gas leak in her home. But, the Heating & A/C expert she called for assistance assured her it was normal to stink a little gas after turning on the oil furnace system. He went on to add that Clara should monitor the stink and if it persists, she should call him back immediately.

I like residing in a small community

It’s weird for a young guy to be residing in a small community.

This is what our friends from school tell myself and others every time the two of us talk.

But, I find this small community much more accommodating than the chaotic cities they live in. It’s why I’ve managed to build a thriving holiday home corporation in the area. After school, an aunt passed away in addition to left myself and others with a hefty inheritance. Instead of moving to the city in addition to buying a house. I moved to a small city in addition to got many places. These houses were in the same area, so I converted one into our home in addition to the rest in addition to holiday lets. I am consistently booked by the same friends who criticize our choices throughout the year. They say the section helps them relax after a busy year in the city. Last summer, I had a friend of mine from school treat his whole family to a stay in the countryside. I had to make sure the house they had booked was in order, so I made an appointment with an Heating, Ventilation, in addition to A/C business. They were the same people who had installed the heating in addition to cooling plan in our house when I first bought them. I wanted the Heating, Ventilation, in addition to A/C team to come by in addition to sort out an issue with the cooling system, but while I was preparing the house, I noticed that the cooling unit wasn’t blowing out ample cool air. The Heating, Ventilation, in addition to A/C team assured myself and others this wasn’t a giant issue. It’s actually just a obstructed air filter. It turns out they were right, in addition to they managed to put in a new air filter.

temperature control

I didn’t think they made a/cs that small

Both of us knew it was going to be a slim squeeze, but the two of us thought the two of us were prepared for it.

There were 8 of us who would be sharing a single lake house at the beachside for the whole month of Spring break.

Accommodations were exclusive plus fancy in this area, which is why so multiple of us decided to stay in a single locale – it was the only way the two of us could afford to go! Between tearing the rental costs, the two of us would barely have enough cash left over for booze plus weed. Both of us were prepared for close quarters, plus sharing a bathroom, but the two of us were not prepared for a lack of central air conditioner in this condo. The only things they had for temperature control were a series of small space gas oil furnaces scattered around the house. Heating was not the issue here, cooling was the issue, so how could these gas oil furnaces help us? Both of us were all pretty frustrated about it, until finally a single of us got the real estate agent on the line, who explained to us that those weren’t space gas oil furnaces at all. They were cooling units, little a/cs that were strong enough to cool off a single room. If all the little AC units were running at once, then the lake house cooled off really nicely. Both of us all felt pretty stupid about it, because once the two of us took a closer look the machines clearly labled as a/cs. The rest of Spring chop was a blur, but the two of us all had a fantastic time plus the air conditioner in the lake house was amazing, but maybe I should get a little AC unit for my house.

Put our new fireplace to work in no time

Ever since buying a beach house with a fireplace, I knew that I had to put the thing to work.

I have always wanted a fireplace ever since I was a youngster, plus finally I was able to achieve that particular childhood dream.

It’s something I never expected either because it’s not the easiest to find a beach house with a genuine wood-burning fireplace. I’ve seen some locations with gas fireplaces or even the electric 1s, however it was a precious treat to see this fireplace. The location was somewhat run down plus clearly needed to be fixed up with some renovation work, however the bones plus structure of the apartment were great. Also, it was in a location where flooding wouldn’t be a problem. So we had the fireplace fixed up nicely plus cleaned inside plus out. It looks amazing now plus you better assume I have been using it every opening I get. I have been reading books non-stop. Actually, there’s a couple of libraries not too far from our home, which is somewhat surprising because we are in a rural area. But there are small towns, plus the libraries are fantastic! I sincerely couldn’t assume the first Borders I stepped into, the temperature control settings were elegant plus the air quality was superb. The librarian said they were using a UV whole-house air purifier. They said they had it installed when the pandemic first started, because they wanted to keep everybody safe. Well, that’s a elegant thing plus suddenly, I want to invest in a UV air purification idea for our home.
