It was finally that time of the year when I could get away for a few weeks and enjoy the sun.

Summer for me is the best time for a mini-vacation from work.

The company I had built had become my whole life. But, for a few weeks each year, I take off to the coast to relax. Being at the ocean’s edge has always rejuvenated my spirit ever since I was young. I managed to find a rental place that had amazing beach houses. Normally I stay in hotels, but I wanted to try out something different this time. I liked the beach house from the moment I walked in because my joy was short-lived. The space was hot, but I thought it was because the cooling system was off. I went to turn it on, but it wasn’t cooling the beach house, which was quite frustrating. I had to open all the windows in the house to let in the cool evening breeze while placing a call to the rental place. Their ad had said the house had an excellent cooling system, but that was far from the truth. The person I spoke to was apologetic and assured me they’d have someone at the beach house early the next morning to fix the cooling unit. I had to sleep with open windows that night. I was busy making some breakfast in the morning when an AC worker knocked at my door requesting to fix the faulty cooling unit. It took him about an hour to inspect and make repairs which restored the cooling unit’s function.

Have you ever gone on a short trip and been stuck in that area for months? That’s what happened to my partner and I.

She had given birth to our first grandchild, and boy, were we excited. The trip was good, but we were all worried about the Coronavirus. News about it taking over the world was streaming in every day, and before we could leave, all flights were grounded. We had no choice but to live with our daughter and her small family for months. Eventually, we managed to find a safe flight back home and were glad to be in our place. The only issue was at some point the air conditioning had stopped working. Since it was summer, our house’s heat and humidity build-up caused so many issues. The minute we walked into the house, we knew something was off with the air conditioning. The awful smell meant we couldn’t stay there until the matter was resolved. My partner has asthma, which would put his health at risk. After booking into a motel, we got an AC company to come by and solve the issue. In such a short duration, mold and mildew have started growing, and neither spores were all over the house. The AC company had to clear the mold and mildew first before it was safe for us to return to the house. Living in a house with mold because of heat and humidity can be a serious health hazard even for healthy people.

Owen is the type of guy that loves nature and spending time outside.

He got out of the city and went to live in a cabin in an isolated part of the state. Since he was a kid, he’d been frequenting the area and knew he could work at home while exploring the outdoors. It’s like he had the entire area to himself since no tourists were coming and going. During his escapades, he came across the perfect cabin to buy with the most amazing views. The only issue with the house was the heating system. Owen planned to stay in the cabin to test it out and noticed signs that the heating system was losing efficiency. It kept blowing a small amount of warm air into the cabin. In addition, that first month, the electric bill was so high since the unit required more energy to keep the cabin warm. Owen had to speak with the owner about the inefficient heating system before buying the place. Since there were no competing buyers, Owen had time to wait for the owner to install a new heating system and do some upgrades to the cabin. Being in the middle of a pandemic meant waiting for the heating and cooling company to plan the installation process. They had strict COVID protocols to follow to keep their workers, the cabin owner, and Owen safe. The whole process was long, but Owen was happy to be moving into a cabin with an efficient heating system.

I’ve been living in the same small town ever since I was 30.

I moved here after a nasty breakup just to relax and calm my mind.

It was meant to be a short-term thing, then I’d get back to the city. But, I got an opportunity to open a small business and never looked back. I run a small plant and flowers store in town, which the community supports. Everyone in this place knows each other, and we always strive to keep the community spirit alive. Last week during a meeting, we found out that our favorite and only HVAC repair company was relocating. A few months ago, the owner had passed away, and his son took over the business. As much as he loved the small town, there was a chance to grow the business in the city. So, he jumped at it when he saw the opportunity to have a much bigger HVAC repair operation. We had no choice but to find another HVAC company to install, service, and repair the units in our houses and shops. Someone suggested supporting a young independent AC worker to set up a shop in the area. He was fresh from HVAC school and was doing some independent work in the area with plans of opening his HVAC business someday. A few of the business owners in the area pulled together some money and proposed being investors in the new HVAC company. The young guy was so happy for the support, and once more, we had an HVAC repair company in town.

Calvin has always longed to live at the beach or near one where he could surf every morning. But, as someone conditioned to have a full-time job, it never seemed the right time to change his life. He kept working at the same job for almost 6 years since it gave him security. But, his heart always longed for a different pace of life. The pandemic put an end to the company he worked for, and Calvin found himself with the opportunity to move. He got a small place at the coast and freelance work, which meant working remotely. Calvin had been bummed after losing his job, but the universe worked things out that he was finally living his dream. His house was small in an ideal location, but he needed to get an air conditioner for the place. Part of the reason the house was so affordable was that it didn’t have an air conditioning system. Calvin went online and came across an AC business offering air conditioner installation in the area. He got some quotes from them and settled on a date when the air conditioner installation would take place. On that fateful day, Calvin met the rudest HVAC worker he had ever come across. He kept speaking to Calvin in such a rude manner when he inquired about the HVAC installation process. It took all of Calvin’s might not to react. Instead, he left a nasty review about the HVAC worker on their company website and a community blog. A day after leaving the review, the owner of the AC business called Calvin to apologize for the nasty experience.

After moving away so long ago, spending time with my parents wasn’t as bad as I had thought.

Before the pandemic, I was living in the city, busy growing my career. I’ve always been a go-getter, so I never went back home after college. Instead, I started working and have been rising the ranks since then. Never in a million years did I see myself moving back home, but that is exactly what happened at the end of 2020. It was getting too scary and lonely living on my own without a job and support system around me. My folks insisted I move back home, and eventually, I gave in to their request. It was almost winter, so we began preparing the house for the long months ahead. Part of the preparation was calling the HVAC company for assistance. My parents have been dealing with the same HVAC company for almost a decade. They were the ones who set up the heating system in the house and did an annual check-up before winter. This time they sent over an HVAC worker who was my dad’s close friend for an inspection. We had tried using the heating system on a chilly fall evening, but it wasn’t blowing sufficient warm air into the house. After a brief assessment, the HVAC worker informed us that purchasing a new heating system was time. There were too many worn-out parts on the unit we had, which would cost so much to fix. It would be much more affordable to buy and install a new unit.

Ever since buying a home with a fireplace, I knew that I had to put the thing to work.

I have always wanted a fireplace ever since I was a youngster, and finally I was able to achieve that particular childhood dream.

It’s something I never expected either because it’s not the easiest to find a home with a genuine wood-burning fireplace. I’ve seen some places with gas fireplaces or even the electric ones, but it was a rare treat to see this fireplace. The place was somewhat run down and clearly needed to be fixed up with some renovation work, but the bones and structure of the house were great. Also, it was in a place where flooding wouldn’t be a problem. So we had the fireplace fixed up nicely and cleaned inside and out. It looks amazing now and you better believe I have been using it every chance I get. I have been reading books non-stop. Actually, there’s a couple of libraries not too far from our home, which is somewhat surprising because we are in a rural area. But there are small towns, and the libraries are fantastic! I honestly couldn’t believe the first library I stepped into, the temperature control settings were wonderful and the air quality was superb. The librarian said they were using a UV air purification system. They said they had it installed when the pandemic first started, because they wanted to keep everybody safe. Well, that’s a beautiful thing and suddenly, I want to invest in a UV air purification system for our home.

When I bought my first home, I thought it was great that we had a boiler system for heating our place.

I actually remember going to school in the past where they had a hydronic heating system and that heating system felt so cozy and comfortable.

This boiler system was very similar and the radiators cranked out just the right amount of heating. On top of that, they actually add some moisture to the air so that the household doesn’t become too dry without the use of a humidifier. Now of course, it’s good to use a humidifier through the winter, but with this boiler system, it didn’t seem entirely necessary. Well, I was disappointed when the boiler finally gave up the ghost. I thought it would last us forever with regular maintenance and care. Well, it only lasted for 2 winters before it was done and the HVAC expert was telling us we had to replace it if we wanted to be warm the following winter. I wasn’t too happy about it, but I ended up just having the old boiler unit replaced. It wasn’t overly expensive, not nearly as much as I expected to be honest. Also, the new boiler is extremely energy efficient. I was surprised at how low the gas bills became that winter after the new boiler unit was installed. The HVAC expert was even saying that down the road, we could hook up our boiler to radiant heated floors. Now that sounded nice and so we saved up for such an upgrade. After making that upgrade, we went a few years enjoying the perfect heating system. We ended up selling the house for a huge amount of money and invested in a new home that’s even better! We’re planning on having radiant heated floors installed in this home as well.

I honestly have never been a huge fan of politics, but in recent years, it seems to have become quite important.

It seems our country has always been split on important decisions and we just keep going back and forth.

A lot of people just want to live a cozy life without worrying about what a crooked politician happens to think. And I don’t even know why, but it seems like every last one of them has some sort of personal agenda to either improve the lives of people and do great work, or to ruin people’s lives. Perhaps that’s just me, but that’s what it has always seemed like. Even when I was a youngster and watching Presidential debates, all these guys would make all sorts of promises and say whatever they could just to get votes. That seems like it has never changed and it eventually became like voting for the lesser of two evils. I always wondered why that was, and why do people continue to allow these situations to happen. It wasn’t until a recent president who I thought was something like a clown, but this guy surprised me when he got into office. While he was demonized by all the mainstream news, if you paid attention, you could see he was actually making the right moves for our country. We had record low gas prices, everybody was working and achieving success, and for once in a long time, it seemed we had a bright future. I was doing so well with my business, I was able to buy a new HVAC system which is a ductless multi split system. I have separate zones all throughout the house which provides customized temperature control settings. I also had solar panels hooked up to the HVAC and we get enjoyable comfort for little to no money!

I can’t tell you how many buddies I have who chose to drive gas guzzler vehicles off the dealer lot.

• I always said to everybody that they should be investing in economic vehicles.

I actually remember the days of Obama being president when the gas prices went up really high. Dealing with those gas prices was hard for everybody. That’s when I decided to invest in an economic vehicle which is a hybrid. This was the best decision I made in a long time. The climate control system works great too, but I try not to use the air conditioning system so much. Of course, I need to use the heating system in the winter, but you don’t burn any extra fuel by using that because the engine naturally becomes super hot and that heated air blows through your HVAC vents according to your temperature control settings. It was crazy because back then, they said we would probably never see $2 gas prices ever again, but then we were able to see that again when Trump became president. Some people think it’s just a coincidence, but I’m not so sure. When Biden came into office, he chose to shut down the keystone pipeline right away, officially ending our energy independence. People laughed at me when I said Biden would ruin this country. Some people still believe he’s a good president. And of course, there are some who think the president has nothing to do with the cost of fuel and groceries. Well, with particular decisions that are made, there are natural consequences. Just like if you decide not to take care of your HVAC system at home, it’s naturally going to break down.
