When mom had the patio enclosed, I never thought I would be happy about it.
I liked being outside at night, and sitting on the patio. It was so much nicer to sit around the pool and enjoy a sultry night with my friends. Mom wanted to have the patio as a year-round room. She said we could have air conditioning and heat on the patio, and still enjoy the outdoors. The patio was still enclosed in glass and you felt like you were outside, if it wouldn’t be for the HVAC system. I was getting ready to go skiing with my friends for my birthday, when the weather station started talking about blizzard conditions. None of my friends were allowed to go skiing, and my mom told me no way. She didn’t mind if my friends came over and spent the weekend, but we weren’t leaving the house. It wasn’t like any of us knew how to ski well, but we would play in the snow. When mom suggested we have a sleepover on the patio, I squealed. There was a door to go outside, and we could play in the snow and come inside. It would be like sleeping in a snow globe, and watching the snow all around us. The best thing was that we had the HVAC system to keep us warm. Mom was pretty smart when she opted to have our patio completely enclosed and have HVAC installed. The only time we had to go inside that weekend was to go to the bathroom and put our PJ’s on.
