Just adding ductless to the addition

My husband and I had to add an addition onto our home.

We had just the right amount of space for the two of us.

After I got pregnant we realized that it wasn’t feasible sticking a baby in there. The addition cost quite a bit. It also required quite a few servicemen. Once you are deep in the project, you might as well not cheap out. We could have just added one bedroom and been done, but I wanted to make it perfect. I decided to add another bathroom and a laundry set up. That meant we needed a builder to actually frame out the space. We needed an electrician for the outlets and a plumber for the bathroom piping. I also needed a HVAC technician to hook my current unit to the addition. I found out that our current home HVAC device was too small for the new size of the house. My husband wanted to just add another central HVAC unit. I nixed that idea. I didn’t want to have service done on two central HVAC units. Instead I choose not to continue the central ductwork and instead go ductless. The baby’s room, new bathroom and laundry room each have a ductless mini split and thermostat. They can have their own specific heating and cooling program. Zone control in half the house, central HVAC in the other. I figure once my old system breaks, I will make every room in the house ductless and connect to that one outdoor unit. It is a more efficient way.
