After moving away so long ago, spending time with my parents wasn’t as bad as I had thought.
Before the pandemic, I was living in the city, busy growing my career. I’ve always been a go-getter, so I never went back home after college. Instead, I started working and have been rising the ranks since then. Never in a million years did I see myself moving back home, but that is exactly what happened at the end of 2020. It was getting too scary and lonely living on my own without a job and support system around me. My folks insisted I move back home, and eventually, I gave in to their request. It was almost winter, so we began preparing the house for the long months ahead. Part of the preparation was calling the HVAC company for assistance. My parents have been dealing with the same HVAC company for almost a decade. They were the ones who set up the heating system in the house and did an annual check-up before winter. This time they sent over an HVAC worker who was my dad’s close friend for an inspection. We had tried using the heating system on a chilly fall evening, but it wasn’t blowing sufficient warm air into the house. After a brief assessment, the HVAC worker informed us that purchasing a new heating system was time. There were too many worn-out parts on the unit we had, which would cost so much to fix. It would be much more affordable to buy and install a new unit.
