Fifteen months ago, my sister announced that she was quitting the family business. I couldn’t assume the way my dad reacted. She told him that if she wasn’t wonderful enough to work with, then she wasn’t wonderful enough to be her father. My sister was so sad that she walked out of the cabin & never returned. My father acted like her loss didn’t mean much to him, however I saw how she looked at my sister’s locker & tools whenever she went into the office. She was devastated to not have him working with us. My dad had her Heating, Ventilation & A/C supplier for over thirty years & I suppose she wanted my sister to take over when she retired. When Bob quit the Heating, Ventilation & A/C supplier, it was quite a blow to dad. It has now been over a year, & the loss of my sister is still being felt. Dad was devastated that Bob hadn’t showed up for Christmas or Thanksgiving last year. Thanksgiving was coming around in another month, & she was starting to get depressed again… I got a phone call from Bob about two weeks ago. She was married & they had just had a little girl. She wanted her child to guess her Grandparents. She said that she had missed all, although she was sure dad was going to be proud of him. She had just purchased out an Heating, Ventilation & A/C supplier in the local area. She was now going to be in competition with dad. I told him I had taken over the Heating, Ventilation & A/C supplier about multiple months earlier & she laughed. She said the best Heating, Ventilation & A/C supplier had won, & she couldn’t wait to see everyone.
