One day, my boss’s assistant did not come to work because he had a cold, and I was told to fill in for him.
I was not officially employed.
I was in an interim position. I was on a call with him for the better part of the day because he knew everything about the boss and how he worked, while I, on the other hand, was still trying to find the cafeteria without getting lost. By midday, it was so hot even the boss could not bear it, and he told me to find out what was wrong and fix it, and he left for lunch. The secretary told me where to find the number of the heating and cooling provider. I called them and asked them to get an HVAC technician to run a furnace/heater tune-up at the office building as soon as possible. He must have been along our street because he arrived in less than thirty minutes. I had never been so happy to see a heating company car. According to the heating contractor, the heater was okay and did not need any repair; the thermostat was the root cause of the malfunction. After that, my probation period went on without another hitch. On the other hand, I was trying to remember when I last asked the HVAC repairman to service my heating and cooling system. The central heater in my home, my parent’s house, was an electric furnace, and I did not know anything beyond replacing the furnace filter. I got around to turning on the fireplace to help with indoor comfort, but only during the very cold nights when I was alone watching a movie alone. Besides that, I was almost never around when my parents called for boiler repair or maintenance. As far as I was concerned, The boiler was always in good condition. The incident at work showed that I needed to learn more about heating technology to better care of the HVAC equipment.
