I came home last from work last week, to a home with a broken furnace and temperatures so cold that ice was warmer.
It was only twenty-six degrees in the house, and I could only picture broken pipes and property damage.
I called the HVAC company, but they couldn’t come out for several hours. I told them it was an emergency and how cold it was in the house, but no one was available. I was going to go to my friend’s house to stay warm, and asked them to call me when they were on their way. I felt guilty leaving my house cold and alone without a furnace, but I was more worried about freezing to death. I sat at my friend’s house for about an hour when the phone went off. The HVAC technician was on his way, and I was thrilled. By the time I got to the house, the HVAC technician was getting out of his service van. He told me he couldn’t repair the furnace, but he was going to put heat wraps around the pipes to keep them from freezing. I was going to need to talk about getting a new furnace, but he said it could wait until morning, as long as I had a place to stay. I went back to my friend’s house and told her what was going on. The next day, the HVAC technician came to my friend’s house and we sat down and picked out the perfect furnace for my home. It was the perfect scenario, but it was warmer than at my house.
