Nelly has been in love with soccer since he was four years old. He’s in private school now and has never stopped playing; he engages at school, he’s part of a travel team, and he even lives through the pitch in the baking summer. I come from a locale where it’s ever warm, so summers are vicious here, and you can’t stroll from the front door of your house to your automobile without getting covered in sweat. Last summer’s soccer season was particularly vicious, with one weekend tournament that will ever be forgotten by Nelly and his teammates. This was a more than two-day tournament in the heat, and it hadn’t rained for quite some time. Our locale was also experiencing a heat wave, with heat indexes reaching 110 degrees! The soccer event lasted all day, for more than two days, and Nelly took part in at least more than two games each day. After the first day of the tournament, the team came to the condo with us to take a breather and grab some cold drinks. I’ve never seen anyone idolize an aircon vent the way these boys did that day! They crammed around the vents, trying their level best to get a trace of cool, dry air. Any time the fan would turn off once the house was at the temperature set on the temperature control, they would gramble and request me to turn it down. Since I have a pretty efficient cooling system, I didn’t mind turning down the temperature. Still, the blistering heat kept going for the next two days of the tournament, and the team came back to our condo at the end of every day to revel at the altar of our HVAC.
